It means your exhaust temperatures are way above average. That's a sign you're running very lean. I wouldn't freak out just yet, it could be a messed up sensor, but definitely treat your car gingerly. Can you think of any reasons why your car might be running lean?

Haven't we ALL heard this
The over heating exhaust warning is a indication (Although the first time I have heard of it lighting up) that your exhaust is over heatind (Duh)
I do not have my factory book but I believe that sensor goes off at +250°F. The sensor is located on the pass floor boards. Slightly aft of where the passengers feet would be. You cat may be clogged up.
Has power droped?
Is your cat glowing like the sun?

You don't want to drive with a clogged cat. I had a friends blow out when we were on the highway and a car behind use hit it and had a wreck. Thats what can happen if its real bad. You should buy a new one or gut it.<<<<Gutting not recomended from me.

mine didn't. I didn't have a power drain either. Seemed to have good exhaust flow. But when we checked it out it was all messed up. I don't see how the air got through it.

Ok, you need to do this. That sensor comes on when that floorboard gets very hot.
Drive it...get that light on...and feel the floor board. Is it hot.
Also, how many minutes does it take for it to come on. Maybe you can lie under the car with a hand hoving under the cat to feel how hot it is getting. If it is still cool and light comes on your heat hazard thing is having issues

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
if the cat is clogged, you'll need to replace it... you can't "fix it"
Just by the over heat and the mention that you are running rich would suggest this to me.
If you are running too rich, that will cause the cats to over heat as well, eventually melting the cores into a nice pile of slag.
Fix the A/F mix first, then hope you haven't caused major damage.
