upgrading the tII turbo

Ok I hear left and right how people upgrade their turbos in the tII cars however I have no Idea what this involves. What all needs to be changed out? I am thinking about getting the stage one or two turbo for the s4 on rx7store.net is that a direct bult up? also the turbo I have is an upgraded one but I cant get it to boost? What would be the deal? I dont' hear any vacuum leaks or anything just no boost. Anyways I'm kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place because if this was just a stock turbo I would just get an upgraded one and be done with it however when I bought mine it was supposed to be an upgraded one (don't know what it is do to the fact that when I got it I wasn't too rx7 savy). Thanks.

Usually the compressor side is what is upgraded. Either a bigger compressor wheel in the stock housing or a bigger housing and wheel. Other things often done are enlarging of the turbine passages and wastegate port.

What do you mean by no boost? Where does the boost gauge get up to? Stock or aftermarket gauge?

I have an after market hks one that gets to 0 possitive boost and thats it. I pulled the tid of and the compressor wheel turns perfect with no shaft play at all. I just can't get the turbo to boost. I'm going to check under the car this week to see if I can find any problems with the manifold. I don't know much about turbos so as much as you could tell me about why a turbo wouldn't get any boost that would be great! the I have another post around here called "trubo problem" where I get more into where I got the turbo and how it wasn't working from the start. I took it to a regualar mechanic to get it installed and he did but there was never any boost. I would take it too someone who knows but no one does around here. Oh and thank you nzconvertable for replying I really respect your knowledge on this forum!! Thanks.

I'm reading you mod list and I don't see a downpipe.
Do you still have the cats?

(You can probably guess I'm thinking clogged cats)

I've got like a 3 or 4" down pipe and open exhaust all the way through except on pre silencer.

I dont think there's a problem with your turbo. I think you may have tee'd into the wrong vacuum line. Try teeing into the same line as the pressure sensor.

Good luck.

wastegate is connected however there is so many vacuum lines around there I don't even know where to begin. If I had a basic knoledge I would be like ok I'll try that but I just don't know. How should it look with a atmospheric blow off valve (greddy) and a profec-b boost controller? Thanks.
