upgrade fuel pupm on NA?

upgrade fuel pupm on NA?

I now have start issues on my latest car. going to have injectors cleaned after I get a spare set. it on the way I hope.

I was reading old posts about changing the fuel pump as a possible fix for the problem.

what can I put in there for a mostly stock NA 90 GXL.? I have been told before that the Walboro 255 is too much .

what about the 190 Walboro?

I really cant see paying $200 for a pump IF I end up needing one.

anything else to use that maybe cheaper? FD pump?

Your stock N/A Pump is going to be fine for your mostly stock NA 90 GXL
Theres no reason to upgrade it.

well the car has full exhaust and cone but thats it.

I just read of a few cases where the fuel pump was causing the start problems. what I am really asking about is what else I can buy other than the expensive pump from the parts store .

I am not really trying to upgrade.

start problems on a n/a are usually cause by flooding. upgrading the fuel pump is only going to increase the problem. your stock fuel pump will work find for well above 200+hp.

N/as run very rich as it is. the best thing you can do is maybe fuel pump cutoff switch or the auto unflood relay fix that i installed in my car and works great.

you can also adjust the timing so that the AF mixture will ignite earlier and help it start up. I gained soem nice hp doing this too

done both to my car and it never floods any more. i also got my injectors cleaned and runing a stock fuel pump

If you run an upgraded pump, you may also need to upgrade the fuel pressure regulator to avoid running rich. Certainly, with the Walbro 255 you will.

I appreciate the replies and the extra info but you guys are misunderstanding me now.

I thought that my 2nd reply would clear that up.

I dont need an upgrade but rather a possible replacement.

what can I replace it with other than a $200 pump from local parts store? last one I bought was only $98 but that was a S4 pump.

I AM NOT TRYING TO UPGRADE! WRONG CHOICE OF WORD ON MY PART. I AM ONLY WANTING TO KNOW WHAT TO REPLACE WITH.

Order thru Napa. #2p72165, about $120.00, less if you have a AAA card. rx7doctor
Tip for allshoppers. Use the Computer to Search the webs. All of them are out there, Napa, Auto zone, etc....Here i thought you young guys were gurus of the computers,lol
For gental jax, before going and doing all this and that. Might want to start diagnosing the problem first. Too many times i see people post about a problem to and not even tell what the actual sysmptons are.
A investment in a haynes manual and some proper testing equipment is a good investment. Or you can take it into a repair shop and pay them $80-$200 hr depending where you live to fix it, just a thought.

When you replace the pump, dont forget to pop in new fuel pump gaskets and to lube the gaskets before you pop them in. I've seen a lot of 'fuel pump problems' that are really caused by that little gasket.

I was just quoting a price for the fuel pump, nothing else.
To properly diagnose the problem he needs to find a fuel pressure gauge and check the fuel line.

I wasnt planning on replacing the pump unless I needed to hence the word "IF" that was in my very first post.

I was just trying to get info on a replacement "IF" I actually needed one later. I also looked online and found them for $200 at two different local parts places that would have to be ordered to get them.

that is why I asked for alternative sources and parts . SO that I wouldnt have to spend $200 for a pump that I could get for less somewhere else.

anyhow- I had my reasons for asking this to begin with. It was not because I felt the need to replace some randon part of the car.

I no longer need to replace the pump as I have temporarily solved the problem. I am working on a real fix.

I wish I could say that your guys helped but you really didnt as I still do not have any answers to where to get a replacement pump except for the recomendation by RX7Doctor.

I guess I thought this was a question with a simple answer.
