Unseizing a 2 year sitting motor?

ok so I just purchased a 87 rx-7 and I thought it needed to be rebuilt but I might not have to right away it seems to just be seized up because I can hear it trying to crank over on the motor and the starter but the engine is just not moving.

now I need to get a good trick on getting the engine to get unstuck so I can get it driving and find all the leaks.

I have another thread in the new member section but I think its better if i try to get help in this section

Edit: also this car has not been garaged it has been through 2 summers and 2 winters and is just waiting to be started I will try to get pictures tomorrow if I can!~

You don't even have to search, just read the FAQ.

Oh c'mon guys.
Put some Atf in the intake ports, spark plug ports and exhaust ports and let sit. Try moving the motor back and forth very carefully. Dont reef on it. It should free up.
Hope this helps

normally i would feel a little more helpful but not once did any of the thousand plus people i helped on this forum even notice what day it was today. well except for one, who has never really needed my help. i've commented on unlocking engines numerous times, that info can be found with a little bit of work. every locked engine i worked on required quite a lot of reefing actually, 4-5 foot breaker bar reefing, back-forth-back-forth.

lol it will either free up and it was just carbon, sticky seals, ( probably not)

or something has seriously malfunctioned in the engine, bearings, seals broken, cracked irons, ect

I understand.

What day is today..? Maybe im out of the loop?
I have always let the atf do the work. Im talking days of sitting which I should have probably mentioned. :P This is only assuming you have stuck seals of course.
Ive reefed to speed things up but also have seen side seals break because of them sticking and I spun it over before they were free. To each is own of course

Haha there was a time that a buddy and I were towing a first gen home that had a seized motor. He decided to try to un-seize it while we were doing 50... the clutch gave out and the motor still didnt unlock hahahaha!

thank you for the comments lol I know I should use the search function more often but I have alot of things to do day or night and would rather be paitient for an answer then be freaking out right now xD

but I will give the ATF a try and see about doing abit of prying to get the rotors moving but I can tell you the motor looks fine after I was able to clean it up some.

anyways after I do all that I will still need put fuel in the car cause he emptied it out only thing in the car is a fresh oil change, and some good plugs from my other FC.

also I will be changing the wires to some 8.5mm msd since I have some spares left from my other mazda xD

I will post again if i have to rebuild it anyways should be alot of fun right?

it was just my birthday, and i just needed someplace to take it out on. in 10 years i think maybe 2 people have even noticed and said anything here to me.

of course now i feel like i twisted everyone's arm by saying it, and it's the day after. it could also be i'm getting to that mid life crisis age at 38, and the fact that none of my family called.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEN!

thread note: this engine has been overheated as he posted another thread stating that.I mentioned it may have a cracked iron as it doesn't spin over 360 degrees.

speak of the devil..

thanks!

i'm over being emo so disregard my previous post.

if the engine was overheated it may have lost a coolant seal, if water sat in the engine then the apex seals may be rusted to the rotors. MMO/ATF may release them but there will still be the much more important matter of the faulty coolant seals. i would start by pressure testing the cooling system before worrying about anything else, the engine may be a boat anchor no matter how it looks on the outside.

Happy Birthday Ben!

For the OP I would recommend taking that bad boy apart and rebuilding.

My engine was seized but actually had an entire colony of mice living in the housings with walnuts and sand. I'm very lucky I didn't try twisting it!

Ok so I had a nice long chat with a rotary buddy of mine and we talked it out we are going to tear it all down insides and the the whole inside of the car.

we are still planning on wether we want to try and 20b it which im sure will be sorta expensive.

or keep it the stock 13b and port the hell out of it. since he has access to a machine shop and a good welding shop that we can get things fix and rdy to go sooner without paying anyone else for it.

this will be fun when we start tearing into the car I will remake a thread for the rebuild progress.

Cya all soon Jeff .W

Edit: also if we can use rx8 rotors please inform because we get alot of recked rx8's out here in idaho because people don't know how to drive rotor power right. :P

anways if possible please tell and we will pick some up since I hear they are lighter and can help with a nicer rev range.

Dont bother with a 20B or rx8 rotors. Just do a proper rebuild, dont go crazy with porting. Use a porting template from pineapple racing or racing beat or whatever. If you think about it to much and try to go big then nothing will ever get finished. If you havent rebuilt a rotary before i dont suggest going all out on the first build.

since this may go unnoticed, let me draw attention to it. it is quite pertinent.

EDIT: RotaryEvolution caught it and commented.

I know about not doing a crazy port job but i planned for this one to hit the track while the other stay my daily driver. but my buddy has the rebuild experience and he going to pretty much teach me what i need to know for next time.

as i siad its something we are talking about before we rebuild so we know what to get ordered and what is in need of replacing.

if you go 20B you better have deep pockets and a lot of patience. $20k+ worth of deep pockets.

I had the same problem with a sitting, non-running car, and the engine was jammed by broken apex seal pieces (rear rotor). We did the MMO, Seafoam, tried reversing the direction and then forward, even put a super long cheater on a breaking bar. All we ended up doing was bending the rear dowel pin.

I guess I'm trying to say, "Be careful if it really doesn't want to move".
