Unofficial Ebay parts thread

So I wanna know some of your thoughts on the affordable stuff on ebay. We've all done it, now lets get answers to questions or just rant about something you bought and wish you did. I'll go first...

I wanna know if the front tower strut bars on there are any good.

And, what about an H.I.D. kit? (Are the stock bulbs H4's?)

well you get what you pay for man, you might be able to find a no name $30 strut bar but you know it won't be as good as $75 TC Sportline. Generally unless it's name brand stuff you want to avoid it on ebay, no need to buy cheap plastic chinese bovs etc....

Yes, you'll want to look for H4 housings and bulbs if you want to go HID.

I'm really thinking about getting that full front mount intercooler kit for my FC, it's like 400 plus S&H. Anyone bought it yet? It looks like a good quality part.

I bought a OBX wastegate off ebay for 150, and its a POS. It came with no instructions, no diagram, nothing. It looks like it has been kicked around. I wnet ahead a bought a synapse wastegate instead, I haven't tried it out yet but it's alot better built.

Ive heard good things about the ebay intercooler but havent had any first hand experience with it. OBX sucks *****. Used japanese wheels are a good buy from Ebay.

JHOT texas, thats were I bought my motor. Good people, good price too. I paid 1300 for my complete TII and tranny. When I picked it up found out it a 3" downpipe, Blitz BOV, a HKS Twin Plate Clutch Kit, and that it had been rebuilt. I would say that I got a stealin deal.

I have an n/a but im getting stuff to do the 2II swap someday. would that be a good upgrade? (im about to get my emissions waivered)

those lights are actually decent. I ordered a pair for my friends toyota pickup and they worked good, until he flooded it. Those little blue lights are just for show, we didn't even bother hooking them up, they look kinda ridiculous. If you tapped them into your turn signals that would be kinda cool I guess.

those headlights are allright the only thing is that u need to seal them with something around the edges due to the fact that they fog in the inside when it rains. they are not sealed all that good but once you do that they are good expecially with HID's

i have a pair in my car white tho not black

I've purchased stuff from JHOT in Georgia. I got a TII hood a few years back for like $100. Good stuff. I got a package deal on a Greddy Boost Controller and Turbo Timer a few years back too, like $225 shipped or something. They are legit, too. My blow off valve also came from eBay, HKS SSQV. It equaled out to retail with shipping.

Other than that I haven't gotten anything else. I do plan on getting a FMIC set up this winter from eBay though.

I wouldn't buy no name harnesses, that isn't safe, who knows how they were made and what they can hold up to, maybe a latch won't undo after an accident and you're stuck inside the burning car, maybe the stitching is made from crap thread which rots in 6 months sitting in the sun, who knows.

But seriously, anything that construction matters, as in anything important, do not buy a no name or ebay brand item.

Yes headlight housings and air filter, oil caps and tire stem caps might be okay.

I have bought OBX radiator hoses, they sucked - didn't fit right initially, had to trim the top one a bunch and the bottom one was way too short to start with.

I actually bought on of those $30 strut bars years agi as one of my first ebay purchases and quickly realized my mistake, it was so flimsy and cheaply made, it didn't fit right and it bent when installing, then rested on top of the alternator.

I have had good luck with those cheap intakes for the TII, the aluminum TID that it comes with works well and seems to be holding up fine after a few years of use.

Basically, the quality of ebay no name items is usually very poor, unless it's something that really can't be built wrong or doesn't need to be high quality than I would avoid it.

i have a ebay FMIC,

I got a Godspeed oldschool greddy knock off one

works good, decent quality

the ebay turbo (some of them) are pretty decent, alot of people will run them with no oil restrictor, so they see the full 60-70psi oil pressure your engine gets and they blow an oil seal, they should never see over 25psi of oil pressure to them
I've saw a couple people running ebay turbo's

ebay is a tottal u get what you pay for deal. I bought a set of the $40 front and rear strut bars. The front fit ok but was a really tight fit on the strut top. The rear....wow. Usually u have to just cut alittle hole. I pretty much had to hack the speaker mounts completely out.

ive always believed hoses and what not to create more horsepower (or free it up) are generally a gimmic. the silicon hoses might reduce heat soak or something, but the power is made in the tuning, not the parts.

cheap ebay parts put local shops and brand name business out of business..

No more brand name companies = no more new aftermarket parts to come out/be discovered.

Some ebay stuff is good though.. its mostly the knock off parts that where cast copied from originals that are crap
