Unable to install slave cylinder.. throwout bearing stuck? (searched)

Hey,

can't get the slave cylinder to sit over the bolt holes despite numerous attempts. I've searched inconclusively, however I have a sneaking suspicion that I might have to pull the tranny back out because it might be the throw-out bearing being stuck or something.

I can't remember (because I'm dumb and I don't pay attention enough) based on previous engine installs if something looks messed up or not.

For the record, the clutch fork is fully forward (if you are looking straight at the engine from the front of the car, the fork is pointing back at you, ya know what I'm saying?), and it won't budge. Slave cylinder is in fine condition.

any words of wisdom?

The N/A slave and the T2 slaves are different, IIRC I've seen a pic of the two side by side on here and one is longer than the other. Is it possible that you've got the wrong part?

Can the piston in the cylinder compress all the way into the body? It would be impossible for clutch fork to be in a position that would stop you from installing the slave cylinder if it was installed correctly. Even if the fork was stuck, it would would not be able to travel far enough to block the slave. Either the piston is not compressed or you have the wrong slave cylinder, assuming the clutch fork is installed correctly.

You've been given an NA slave cylinder. Been there, done that, twice...

WE HAVE A WINNER......bro you are so correct...your going to have to drop the tranny...but first before we go any further...what kind of work were you getting done or doing to the car? clutch and press. plate work or something? Cause also when the clutch and press. are removed and changed and then put back on and the alignment is not on point, the shaft coming out of the tranny, going into the e-shaft can be hard to align. when he/she are putting all the tranny bolts back on, a loud popping sounds happen sometimes, causing the fork to stay engaged making the slave cylinder hard to mount/bolt up...Even after all that is said, and the slave is bleed and it open and closes the the clutch still will not engauge...So first and formost do this

Drop the tranny...
make sure the clutch is aligned correctly with a clutch alignment tool...
make sure there is sufficient lube on the throwout bearing and the shaft...
before mounting the tranny back on make sure the bearing is seated properly and moves freely with no problems..
when mounting the tranny back on use a zig zag bolt pattern to distribute the torquing sequence so the tranny closes evenly all the way around...
mount the slave cylinder...
bleed the slave...
and you should be good...
but the key here is making sure your clutch is aligned correctly if you did change that out...if not the free movement of the throw out bearing...and the alignment of the shaft when mounting the tranny to the block...
