uhh oh... smoke. How long will the engine live?

Sooner or later turns out to be sooner.

So I didn't notice any smoke when I bought my 7 last weekend, but I guess it must have been there, just a tiny bit and I didn't try the rev to 6krpm/stop thing (What was I thinking?).

Today someone said I had a little smoke and I said, huh?, and then tried it. Puffs of smoke, so I guess my side seals are on the way out.

My question is, how long does the engine have left before I need to rebuild it? (or have it rebuilt, rather) The smoke isn't even really noticeable normally unless you're standing behind the car right after it finishes moving in reverse.

If I keep adding oil can I still use the car without running into any major problems? On the other hand, I don't want to be a chronic polluter either, so now that "good shops in LA" thread becomes more important....

Kevin,
Man sorry to hear that dood!..ASAP drive to MAZDA of Thousand Oaks and have it compression tested. They should be able to tell you how long you can drive your car. But of course the damn dealer will tell you to put a reman motor in ASAP. Dont have them work on your car!..Not only they charge too much they also dont know what they are doing. Just have them test the car's compression PERIOD. If you dont have to worry about emmision you might want to consider a JSPEC motor!..i know exactlly where to get them!..
If you want to rebuild the motor a friend of mine that works at Salazar Mazda does some job on the side on weekends. If you need his help i can contact him and maybe can build your motor. I want to help you as much as i can because im also going thru the same situation. My car has been sitting in my drive way for more than a year now.
Let me know what you want to do at FCTURBO2@hotmail.com
