U-Joint??

My front u-joint is shot, and i have heard that you can not change them and you have to change the whole driveshaft. When i took the driveshaft off and looked at it, i dont see why you can not change it. I also showed my dad and he said it looks like it can be changed. Anyone know if you can change the u-joint on it b/c i dont want to spend 50-70 on a driveshaft. Any pictures would be very useful.

try $125 for a drive shaft pulled from a yard.

And yes I have heard you can replace them.
Some people use chevy yolks so they are easier to replace in the future.
Uncles friend found the joints at shucks and is replacing them.

A driveshaft is way more than 50-70. The OEM driveshaft is about $350 and the aftermarket with changeable U-joints (you want this one) is $250. Unless you already have an aftermarket one with interchangable u-joints, you will have to buy a new one.

Well when i said 50-70 i meant i could get one used off of ebay, or off of someone parting out their car.

If you look closely, the bearing caps are held in by "ears" done at the factory. There are no slots for snap rings/ c clips. People have replace them though. Many threads on the subject. I personally would go with a used, if you can find one at a resonable price, or the aftermarket with replaceable joints.

Go to a local shop that rebuilds driveshafts and ask them if they have access to this brand. If so, buy away!
Oh, and these also have grease fittings.

It was the u-joint, and i bought an aftermarket driveshaft and picked it up for a 100.
