Turning steering wheel while stopped lowers idle?!?
Ok my idle is way high, like 2000+. I know my power steering belt is too tight but haven't gotten around to losening it. I was completely stopped & turned the wheel & noticed the RPMs dropped. So I started turning it back& forth & I made it go down to like 1500 or so from above 2000. Could the tight belt change my idle? Thanks alot. I will prolly find out if that was it before someone responds but never heard of this so was wondering.

it's the added load applied to the e'shaft that is used to turn the power steering pump which works harder when you turn the wheels.

It's a sensor called the power steering sensor. It's attached to the power steering pump. It senses when the wheel is turned (at idle) and increases the RPM's to compensate for the drag the power steering puts on the engine. You can test it by disconnecting the connector and measuring the continuity (with the engine running) while you turn the steering wheel. Mines shot too. Doesn't seem to affect anything else other than Idle RPM.

if your TPS is out of adjustment,
the computer wont think you're at idle,
so if that power steering sensor only does things at idle.......
anyway.. TPS check and sdjust is here: http://k2rd.freeservers.com/FC3S/TPS/tps.html
the throttle stop screw is right next to the TPS sensor, but on the firewall side of the throttle body. you need to loosen the hex nut (like 8 or 7mm i think) before you can adjust it with a screwdriver.
you also have to adjust your TPS after doing this.
if your throttle plates wont close as you adjust the screw, check to make sure your throttle cables (including the cruise cable) arent hung up somewhere. you can also make an adjustment where the throttle cable mounts to the TB, but i dont think you are supposed to do it that way.

Just in case, the idle adjustment is the only screw on the very top of the intake manifold (where it says 13B Injection). I'ts supposed to be under a black rubber cap.
