Turn Signal "Flasher" not working
I had posted a message few days ago about my RX-7/88 model turn signal not working. Well, all the recommndations were pinpointing to the flasher circuit in the CPU black box. I have replaced that "flasher Circuit board" and still does not fix the problem. Just to re-state the nature of the problem:
1- Light bulbs are good
2- When turning the signal lever I hear the relay clicking.
3- The clicking sound becomes faster when I turn on the Hazard switch- and of course the hazard does not function either.
4. All wires going into CPU box and coming out are all in good shape
What else could be the cause- any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Aure you sure the flasher unit is working? When you say clicking.. does it sound like a normal click.. or a fast click?
If its a normal click.. there might be a broken connection somewhere.
If its a fast click.. recheck the light when a ohm meter to make sure there not out.

Thanks for your suggestion. As I mentioned, I replaced the flasher board with a brand new one. So, I know for sure it's not the board. Also, the clicking sound gets faster when the hazard button is pressed- of course the hazard light does not work either.
By the way, the light (arrow) inside the dashboard does not flash either.

well i got my flasher unit from the junkyard and it worked, maybe the new one is a defect use a voltage meter or tester to accually see if it works!! the reason im saying this is because i had the same problem!!

I got this flasher from Mazda dealer- brand new was shipped from Japan. I am guessing it might have something to do with the turn signal switch- but that's very difficult to get to- as it resides inside the instrument panel.

put a power into CPU see the light will come on or not....
if comes on ... CPU need to replace....
Cuz i have that happen before, and i paid 250 for the new CPU ..... not cheap !!!

Hmm Sounds alot like the flahser circuit on the cpu.. I have one on Ebay that has been tested and works fine.

But if you got a new cpu from a mazda dealer.. Hmm, have you tryed swaping the cpu with a friend who has a FC, so that you can make sure that the flasher is working correctly?

Well- I read about the function of the CPU box. It houses three circuit boards:
1. The main board it basically control the Light-off reminder buzzer.
2. The flasher controls the turn signal
3. The smaller board controls the brake light.
So, I replaced the flasher- that's the only circuit board that has anything to do with turn signal.
Again, this is what I have read- if someone knows anything different please let me know.

Turn signal problem
Was curious to know if your car has the air bag in the steering wheel? I'm having the same problem only thing is bought the car this way thinking na no biggy just a turn relay. haha wish it was that simple. Funny thing there's more to it. Do you or any one else have an air bag steering wheel? They use a different turn switch, was wanting to know if you pull the lever one way or the other is it suppose to stay put? mine does not like most do, thinking it should. I bought this car at a good price with a blown air bag. Now I'm wondering if it broke the switch, other than it has no turn signals no hazards its in good contition
While on the subject of switchs, any one out there know where I could fine the wiper hazard criuse control assmebly? Wiper inter doesn't work either, but hear thats a commom problem. The air bag system puts the cruise control just below the hazard button and now I see it comes as an all together switch. Any advise or help would be great.

Have you checked the wiring yet???
I have posted it a couple times on how to check, but I guess since you didn't search I can do it again
At the flasher board on the CPU there will be a black wire that has ground on it at all times. If it does not, there is a disconnected ground at the top of the dash on the drivers side.
Also at the flasher board plug there will be a Black/Blue wire. This should have 12volts+ on it at all times.
If if does not: you have a bad fuse.
If it does: jumper over 12volts to the Green/red (in the same plug going to the flasher board).
When you do this the Left side lights should flash and the Green/Black coming out of the flasher plug should have a flashing 12volts on it.
If the green/black does not then the flasher CPU is bad.
Next put 12volts onto the Green/Yellow.
Now the Green/white should have flashing 12volts coming out of the flasher CPU.
Again if it does not you have a bad flasher CPU.
if there is both flashing voltage on the Grn/Blk and Grn/White when the Grn/Red and Grn/Yel have voltage, but the lights still do not work, the flasher CPU is good, but the lights themselves are either burnt out or the wiring to them is disconnected.
And BTW: I have rebuilt with 180 day warrenty (twice Mazda dealer warrenty) flasher boards for under $35 in stock at my website.

.. pardon the necro ... back from the dead..
and seems mark reaches out and still helps us all at some time
,, went nuts today looking for a good reason why two flasher units wont work
even after resoldering and jiggery
i was onto a low voltage issue and was going to restring a new power source ..
decided to try my luck and googled it ..
.. and here is the answer right in my face
well.. i certainly dont have the full 12v ..
so.. went back through that fuse box again ( and its a ***** in a right hand drive car )
.. and low and behold.. a dirty ( but complete ) hazard fuse
is enough to drop system volts to 10 .. and the flashers will tick.. but not flash
( and tick faster if the hazard button is pushed in )
right again mr mildice.. where-ever you are .. thanks

Hi guys,
Sorry to revive an old thread. I was reading up a few threads regarding the turn signal switch. Reading the problems people stated I am having something completely different happening with my turn signal switch.
My turn signal switch does a normal click to the right. Green arrow flashes, amber lights in the front and rear also blink indicating that I want to turn. When I turn the switch to the left it starts clicking really fast. No lights blink in the front and rear. I have replaced the light bulbs and still nothing. When I press the hazards only the right (passenger side) flickers. Do you guys have any idea why? Would this also be related to the circuit board?

Not sure if u got the problem solved or not, but I ran into the same problem as u just yesterday except that it was my right turn signal instead. The problem end up being the flasher unit. I had power going into the unit but nothing coming out on for the right signal.
