Turboing a base s4
I’m not looking to do this anytime soon but I was just curious what all I would need to do to turbo my base model 87. Like would I need turbo housings or anything like that?

there are kind of three ways to go;
the first is that since the car was offered with a turbo, you just swap the turbo drive train in, there is a lot of stuff to find/buy and its a big job, but its a bolt in swap
the second is to turbo your engine. requires you to fabricate stuff to put the turbo on, you need to do something with the fuel/ecu
the third is to swap in a different engine, its a little hazy, but you potentially can get more power while keeping the emissions, and it side steps the rarity of the T2 stuff. the 13B Cosmo is a pretty easy swap, the FD is harder.
it really helps to have an idea of what you want from the car, and the budget, and the time frame. does it need to pass emissions? be quiet? are you keeping the AC/PS? is it a street car? etc etc

It's possible. You can retain the 6 port NA engine and add all the turbo accessories. The most important aspects are FUEL and ECU to have a healthy and reliable engine for the long term.
Have a look at my build thread if you wish. Your build list can vary depending on budget. I had intentions on running E-85 so there are items that I HAD to have to make that happen (Fuel delivery purposes) There are a lot of people who have done the work successfully, just take your time and gather all the parts first.
Post #49 starts the build and it evolves from there.

Something else to consider while sourcing your parts. If you buy a JDM / jspec motor from an importer the UIM / vacuum lines are not the same as a US.
Since you're planning on removing the rats nest it won't be a big deal. But the vacuum lines for injectors are different.
