Question TurboII Trans in a 1986 N/A

Ok I tried to search but I didn't find exactly what I'm looking for. I have a 1986 N/A RX7 5Speed I want to do a TurboII conversion but with all these posts I'm getting mixed stories. So far the parts I've collected is a 1988 TII tranny and Diff. The one thing that is confusing me is the whole Flywheel/Counter weight thing. I don't know what to get I have read that you have to it match to the engine, or some have posted you have to match to it the tranny. I'm not going with a lighter flywheel I just want to go with a stock one for now.I have also read that since I have 4 bolt wheels I have to change to 5 bolt cause the half shafts won't fit. Can anyone clear this all up for me cause I'm real confused.

you need to get a flywheel that matches the type of engine..ie s4 NA needs a s4 flywheel--s5 TII needs a s5 TII flywheel...the stock flywheel has the counterweight built into the flywheel, so just find the flywheel for the series TII engine that you are putting in...the half shafts should fit...I did the 5 bolt conversion and I used my 4 bolt halfshafts!!

if you have a 86 n/a you need to get a 87-88 TII flywheel (there is no such thing as a 86 TII). This would be a good time to replace your clutch with a performance one for down the line too. You say you have a tranny and LSD diff. so all you need is a drive shaft from a turbo car and half shafts. I don't have any info on the hubs, never worked on a 7 with 4 lugs I'm sure if you switched to the 5 lug it would work, but then you've got to get some rims, which if you have a base 86 wouldn't be a bad idea

I just did a conversion like this.
89 gxl now with a full tII drivetrain.
you need to match the flywheel with the year of the car.

a series 4 (86-88) needs a series 4 tII flywheel, a series 5 car (89-91) needs a series 5 tII flywheel. The tranny's don't matter, just as long as it is a turbo. You will need a turbo driveshaft and from everything I've heard you'll need turbo halfshafts also. I am not 100% sure on that, but I used turbo halfshafts with no problems. You will also need a turbo starter. You can use an NA clutch slave cylinder but I'd reccomend getting a turbo one and a steelbraided line.

Like the man said, you'll need a turboII driveshaft. Another thing is you'll need a turboii transmission mount. The N/T transmission mount won't work. See Mazdatrix.com for parts.

When you get your turboii engine, it should already have the correct flywheel with that engine. Just bolt it to the transmission.

No, I know I did not answer all your questions. I left my N/T rear end in the car and just bought a driveshaft from Mazdatrix to fit the turbo transmission. Special made shaft. About 245 bucks. The rear joint is different on the turbo from the N/T and the front yoke on a N/T will not fit a turboii transmission.
