Turbo2 Conversions - Sourcing
Howdy,
I'm curious as to where people are sourcing T2 engines, trannys, and rear ends from now a days. Have the J-Spec Turbo motors become so scarce that opting for a 13BRE swap has become more feasible than finding a series 5 engine which will most likely require a rebuild. I'm curious as to what those Turbo conversion individuals are doing and if they are using any reputable sources for their engines.

They are all over eBay and some of my local importers in Florida have them. The prices are going alot higher than i remember. You could easier spend 5k (~$3200 swap + ~$1500 rebuild kit + misc.) buying a JDM import.
most places have a specific disclaimer to prevent you from returning engines, so it's always a gamble and the more the engines have been cherry picked through, the less your odds of getting a winner. i'd bet that 2/3 of the rotary engines you see anywhere for sale are junk.
if you can't hear and see it run... good luck.
i just pulled apart an engine that had been rebuilt at some point, the 3 piece apex seals were reused. compression might have even been fine, but the engine certainly wouldn't have lasted. luckily it had coolant seal wall breaks that caused it to need to be torn back apart. it was also missing a few oil control o-rings.. i wish i could say i haven't seen this type of shotty workmanship in rotaries before, but i have seen it time and time again.

My buddies and I decided if you pick up a jdm swap, pull it apart for a rebuild. And honestly it’s worth doing to most used motors you don’t know the history on. Stuck side seals, worn out o-rings have given us enough trouble.
