This turbo worth it

I have a chance to buy this turbo, was told that its from a ford diesel. According to the number in the chra 448315-1 is a garrett gt40. On compressor housing says AR .65 m24 and exhaust says AR 89 m9. Dont want to tear it apart to measure the wheels since its not mine yet. Its also t4 with twin scroll and 3 inch v band for the turbine outlet. Basically Im going to be running large streetport and my goal is 400sh whp. Anyone know if its good for the 13b?

without knowing the wheel specs, any answers will just be guess work.
It can be a GT40, but that just might be the chra only. It might have different wheels size compared to a real gt40.

Well the seller doesnt want me to open it, I measured the compressor wheel and its 55mm, turbine wheel is 60mm. These measurements are the diameters with dial caliper.

Google turned this up, which looks to be similar: http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewto...p?f=3&t=118122. The wastegate actuator placement is fairly unique.

There are a couple GT40 sizes listed in this chart: http://fc3spro.com/TECH/TURBO/tmodels.html. Your caliper measurements are bound to be off a little without removing the housings, but neither measurement matches what's on Ted's site. But if this is a Ford production turbo, it could very well have different measurements.

Is it really such good deal to consider it?

If compressor measures 55mm on inducer, its really small, GT3582R for example has 61mm inducer. Just by inducer size we can guess that max flow rate is under 50 lbs/min. And turbine with 60mm exducer is again really small, smaller than GT35 hotside. I would say run away. If you are really after 400whp, this won´t cut it.

First, smack the seller. Nobody is going to buy a turbo without taking teh housing off to inspect the wheels and diameter. The wheel can be all chewed for all you know. had it happen to a friend of mine, and after many insults over the phone and face to face from me, they refunded the money back.
Also, that turbo will not put out the power you want, at most it will put out 300hp or around there

cheap is $100, if so i'd say it's probably ok and will work and get somewhere near your goal if the turbo is in fact ok.

if by cheap you mean $300, laugh and walk away without knowing anything about turbo because he won't accomodate.

Ok so I bought it for cause it was cheap. Took the compressor housing off and re-measure the compressor wheel.
Inducer-2.243"->56.97mm-->57mm
Exducer-3.0"-->76.2mm
If anything I'll be better than the stock s5 I have now.

hopefully realizing the extras you need to support it.

don't even begin to think that you can toss on a bigger turbo and make more power just by upgrading the turbo, now you need to upgrade the fuel system, exhaust and go with a standalone engine management system.
