Turbo vert owners post here!!

Hey people how you doing?? Anyways I just wanted to do a head count of all the turbo vert owners out there...
It seems that with the shrinking prices on turbo engines, that this swap is catching on rather fast.... Just wanted to know how many of you have actually turboed your vert, If you can also list drivetrain and your experience with the n/a rear end and trany.... If there was another thread about this then im sorry and mods go ahead and shut it down, no need to clutter the site more than it is.... So Ill start with me, Im using an s5 turboII motor with block off's on an s4, using my harness and modified injector clips, also using n/a drivetrain, with vmount IC untill I buy a smaller or larger IC to fit the front with out modifying.... An npr would do me good right now...

Thanks
Martin

IN sig, been turbo for a bit over a year.

The swap is by no means new, or just catching on. IN fact, the swap-happy masses have almost depleted the common supply of turbo parts, driving prices of jspec engines and turbo swap parts through the roof.

Been running the NA drivetrain the whole time, too. I have a gtus 4.33 LSD, and a stock NA trans and DS. Stock NA flywheel, but I did need a strong clutch. A VERY strong clutch. I burned out a centerforce dual friction with a quickness. I went back with an ACT XT pp, and a 6 puck disc. I may eventually go back to an organic disk, but I will need to keep the XT pp. IT may be possible to get by with a HD pp, but the extra pedal effort the XT requires is worthwhile for the clamping force (which ultimately determines torque capacity).

HEy kevin I havent sent you an email cus I didnt want to waste your time, with useless replies... but I started working today and didnt have a chance to even pack it..
I guess Ill have to wait till monday, but I dont want you to think that im playing games or anything, Im a seriouse guy when it comes down to business, but ill let you know as soon as I send it....So whats the horror story about n/a trannies going in a quickness, and about shredding differentials, anyways I thought it was always an exageration as I had no problems before....
I love your vert, its clean as hell. I went to your site for pictures but you dont seem to have any of them..

There have been many a debate/flamefest about this on the forum. I drive my car very reasonably, and I only go full throttle/full boost when the car is already in gear fully...I rarely raise hell from a standing start, do burnouts, etc. IN my opinion, the test of a drivetrain is it's ability to last over a period of time when driven reasonably (like your father would drive...use the car's power, but don't shock the drivetrain or be abusive).

Others in general don't tend to agree with my opinion. They say that the true test of a drivetrain is how long it holds up to burnouts, hard starts, hard shifts, shock, etc. FOr a race application, this may be true, but it's hardly a valid test procedure for a street car.

Bottom line, almost anything can be broken when being abused, some things break without being abused. The NA drivetrain may not hold up forever this way, but it is about 40lb lighter than the t2 setup, and parts are a LOT cheaper to come by. Plus, I wouldn't give up my 4.33 LSD for a 4.1 t2 unit if I could...the 4.3 isnt available in a t2 rear, unless you import a rare infini version.

whats a vert?
Respect tha 'vert, y0...

sligltly off topic - keven what did you do for an antenna. I am sure your wing covers the stock location. I fit a musthang wing on one of mine and now have to deal with a new antenna location, cant decide where.

Still in break-in period with my 88 with an S4 turbo rebuild courtesy of ol' 'Kevin". Just acquired and installed the proper hood, paint in a couple of weeks.
Luv it!
Next to get: an S5 manifold/turbo setup, hate the sound of my leaky S4 one...

I drilled a new hole in the body, and a new hole for the botom of the antenna inside the trunk, and moved it forward about 3". Then had my body man shave the old hole, along with the rear emblem holes and 3rd brakelight.

It looks stock now.

Spacers take away from your ride quality. I actually wanted wider wheels, but theyre not available in this style. I ran spacers on them for a bit, but there was too much vibration to suit me. BEsides, I have wide *** wheels with a lip on my FD, so I'm satisfied with those.

Kevin,

How long did it take do tear up the centerforce clutch? About how much power do you think it took (I know you were running a sizeable turbo for a while).

I have a CF DF in my car now with an RB aluminum flywheel and my shop said that the clutch looked great so we kept it (I was ready to buy an ACT 6 puck). BTW, my motor and all goodies are in (that GReddy FMIC is a bitch). Your SP'd rebuild, which sat for over a year, started on the first try

Damn thats nice must be one nice and quick *** vert....
Now that I'm working again, imma start modding my **** real quick.. first though is the looks department, im not all that into show, but since my car has been sitting for a year and some months, it doesnt quite look as nice as it did, since I sold my rims, well I never had the rims, but the top ripped when I put it up yesterday after over a year of being down..... and I chipped a few chunks of paint with me putting **** on the car over the year period.... Anyways, my engine is almost complete just need to get this rotor from someone, but I havent had time to do ****..... BTW thanks for the replies, and keep'em lookin good.... O and quick and like one of the members from the SE section says to those who are in doubt.... Dont hate cus we can droptop, drop a gear, and disappear.... I like that.... anyways good luck with your cars and keep it up..

Martin I would tend to agree with you if the bitch would run right. Kevin Landers has been working on it trying to get the 3mm apex seals to seal up right. For some reason the rotary aviation seals just didn't work on my used housings.

90 turbo motor in 89 vert. Driveline all from the same car. E11. The car however isnt my real project, so Its kinda just running for now.
Its funny. I gave my turbo to a friend not expecting to use the engine right away. My verts NA died so, now its a turbo with a NA header. power sucks. BUT hell my real project keeps that side of me happy.
