Turbo Vert making turbo/dp glow red!

So a customer of mine did a complete Turbo swap to his S5 Vert, everything looks great.
He brought it to me because once he got the motor installed it never did run properly. It had a horrible buzzing noise and no power at all.
It turns out the compressor wheel on the turbo had all the fins bent and was out of balance, also not creating any boost. So the turbo came off and was rebuilt by a turbo shop.

Once we got the new turbo back on the motor it ran ALOT better, but it still doesnt have the power it should.....infact if you step the throttle right to the floor it takes a long time to rev up and lacks power. If you partially step on the throttle, it seems to run fine and rev up just the way any T2 would at part thottle.

After driving it around for only a few minutes, pop the hood and find that the turbine side is completely glowing red as well as the down pipe! even letting it sit there idling to cool down it still glows red, but idles perfect at 700 rpm and revs up fine in nuetral.

I've checked for vacume leaks and anything that doesnt look right, but it all seems to be there. I'm kinda stumped....

Any help?

The rare "injector stuck open" syndrome? The symptoms sound correct. Easy to tell if you remove the upper intake and then pressurize the fuel system.

The exhaust is brand new, he had a custom downpipe made up with a cat placed about 4in from the turbo. Could that be causing eveything to glow?

It has a N370 AFM which is the S5 T2.

If an injector was stuck open.....wouldn't it idle real weird? or not at all? Cause it seems to idle pretty decent.

I say timing is out? Check timing again. Put it back to TDC.

Usually the 'glowing' is caused by bad timing and/or too much fuel, too rich.

Chances are the timing is really retarded.

Sounds like the timing is +/- 20* off. This happens a lot when doing engine swaps or changing parts between engines. Manually locate TDC and new timing marks, and restab the CAS from there.

It likely wouldn't idle at all, and be a major pain to start. The last suck injector I dealt with was because the flyback circuit in a Megasquirt fried. As soon as 12V was applied to the car, the injector was wide open. Car would only start and "idle" if the pedal was on the foor...raw fuel would drip from the exhaust....

Sounds like a timing issue then. Are you sure the pully is correct for the engine? I have heard two versions: All pulleys are the same, and that J-specs are different. Either way, Kevin's advice to find TDC and verify the timing mark is best.
