Turbo Swap(S4-S5) Temp Gauge woes
I'll be throwing in my second S5 j-spec (don't ask) in my 88 gxl hopefully next week. When i had the last one in the temp gauge didnt work for ****. I'm running a microtech so i know what temp the motor was running at but if i dont have a laptop in the car and happen to have the handset disconnected i'd like to have at least the stock gauge work "normally" so i can have some idea of the engine temp. I understand the problem to be the temp sender itself(in the rear housing). Will a temp sender off an s4 fit an s5 housing? I know the connector is different but the threading is my concern. Thanks for any information.

no, I think all the S5 (and any "new" S4 housings you get now) have that different thread pitch (compared to the original S4). Can't you just get a new S5 temp sender? Can't cost all that much, and then you won't have to worry about it for a while...

I am under the impression that the temp senders are inferior to the s4 ones and are more of an on/off switch. If a new one will be more accurate i'll go that way.

Yeh, I forgot before I posted, you probably have the S4 gauges, huh?...I don't think the S5 sender will do ya much good...There was another thread about this a couple of days ago...The problem with finding an adapter (so that S4 sender will fit S5 housing) is that now the sender mounts further out from the coolant stream...Thought about going aftermarket? That's what I would do in your situation...
