I see. I was told by my mechanic that the corners with the plugs were pretty much useless since the plug burns up in a few thousand miles anyway. He told me the solids were better because their cheaper and they are less likely to fall in large ports (which would be the builders error anyway?)

so.....if i port the engine i pretty much need to switch to an aftermarket ecu?? I am not really overly concerned with the debate on corners and plugs since i am haveing that done by someone who has been doing rx7 racing of all kinds for about 25 years. I am looking for what I need to do to gain more hp and torque and what components i am looking to buy in addition to what I have already considered. This post is to get some ideas on what power is to be expected from the setup i posted and if there are any other power or management suggestions to be made to me. Thanks guys for all the input.

Yes? I think the corner seal might be rotating the wrong way in this picture but either way the solid corner will rotate until it lays against the apex seal.

yes. the stock ecu is good for a stock engine, but with a port and freeflow exhaust, its not stock anymore, and the stock ecu doesn't do anything about it. thus the stock ecu isnt all that safe for a ported engine.

this leaves two options

1. leave the ports stock, run the exhaust and have a fun car

2. port the motor, buy ecu, and still be limited by the stock turbo

Mazda's whole point is that a solid corner seal results in either

1) a tight clearance that restricts movement of the apex seal in at least one dimension, resulting in additional blowby

2) a loose clearance that allows additional blowby

the corner seal plug and groove are a compromise.

Rx-7 13B:

Rx-8 Renesis 13B:

the Renesis has changed other things about the apex seals though

So what makes the RX-8 side seals different from these others? How do they center the apex seal?
