There are two noises you will normally hear:
1. When you accellerate under boost, you will hear the turbo spool up. It sounds like a jet engine under your hood, just quieter.
2. When you suddenly let of the throttle, you will hear a "shhhhh". This is the blow off valve releasing excess pressure. If you have an aftermarket BOV which is vented to the atmosphere, that sould will be a LOT louder.

With an aftermarket blow off valve you'll hear a woosh sound when you shift. The blow off valve is releasing pressure that is headed back towards the turbo when the throttle body closes. You may also hear the turbo spooling if you have an aftermarket air filter. Kind of a sucking sound.
I say aftermarket because most cars don't have cone filter on there turbos and there bov is often very quite or inside the intake. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. Hope that helps, we aren't all gifted in turbo stuff right away. I am learning myself.

Matlock: Ever drive beside a TII in a quiet car? The turbo is quite noticable.

I don't know about you guys, but i just installed my "turbo kit" (http://www.sunamiturbo.com/ ), and my BOS (blow off speaker) sounds at about 5000 rpm... anyone else experience this with their turbo cars? Aaron, didn't you convert yours using a similar kit?
