Turbo setup???

I have an '87 t2 and am considering upgrading my setup to something a little bigger. Currently running a hybrid turbo, Wolf EMS, 3" DP/cat/exhaust... A couple friends are selling brand new garrett gt40 and tial 38mm wastegate. I would need to get a custom manifold and tuning, but would this be worth getting? The turbo/wg are going to cost me about 550

I'm pretty sure a Garret GT40 is more than a "little" bigger.

I am not sure about this, but i thought a 38mm wastegate was a little small for this size turbo on a rotary. Please correct me if i am wrong.

Ya, i guess it would a lot bigger... and i was thinking about it and a 38 would probably be too small; besides, my friend is going to sell it to a buddy, so now i can get something bigger if i can get everything together. This gt40 has a t3/t4 flange... so I'm assuming i'll have to go with a custom manifold since the stock turbo is approx the size of a t3 flange right?

Even a GT40 is too big for most people's needs, so unless you have giant HP goals, you arent going to need something bigger than that. You will need an aftermarket or custom manifold for any turbo that does not use the factory turbine housing. Why dont you tell us your goals for the car, and we will help you try to find a suitable turbo.

Just noticed their are 2 gt40 models... one with a t3 and one with a t4 flange (including other differences)... i'll have to get more info. This car would not be a daily driver by any means. I would like to make at least 375-400rwhp, but have plenty of room left to increase the boost. This will mostly be ran on the freeway with some track use. I'm really considering it because is $400 for a brand new gt40 a good deal?

The T4 is the only thing youre going to want. Stay away from the T3's.
