Turbo removal
Turbo removal
I am trying to take off my turbo to replace the exhaust manifold, and have run into a little snag. I have 3 out of the 4 nuts off, and the last one is the top one closest to the front of the car. I can get my wrench around it, but the oil return line is smack dab in the way, and I can't turn the wrench because it binds up on the return line. Is there any secret on how to get all this apart? Do I have to take the turbo and manifold off together? I had looked into doing that, but it didn't seem very feasible. Also, the lower intake is still on the engine, because it looked to me like it has to come off after the turbo and such. Thanks in advance.
I haven't had an S4 turbo on my car for a while, but I think I got that last nut off with a ratcheting box wrench. I don't honestly remember though, other than it being a pain in the ***, but somewhat easier if you strip off all the oil and water pipes.... but that means new gaskets for those.
i removed the UIM, the lines and it was a piece of cake. My turbo was GLOWING HOT and no damage to the bolts so they just came off easilly ( i was using air tools though)
removed UIM

I got under the car and removed all the bolts and then pulled it up and out of the engine bay. I removed the oil line from the block and when it was out I removed it from the turbo. Where are you getting stuck? As you can see the bolt can be reached easily when you remove all the crap that's in the way.

If your too cheap to buy engine degreaser don't you have some oven cleaner or grease lightening somewhere? Ouch!!! I had a 1981 honda civic that wasn't that dirty... Oh congrats on getting that off.
Cut out some plywood and put it over the ports, remove the random electronics and other things that can get fried from high pressure water, and just blast your engine bay with a power washer.
Yes, that is on the agenda. You should've seen the crap that was caked on the manifolds. This car has not been treated too well over the years, whether it be the ghetto *** "modz" or the condition of the engine bay, as you see. Oh well, there's fun to be had in rescuing them........ at least it has 110 psi on both rotors and runs like a bat out of hell.
