Its got a drain plug. Thats a start. The question should be is it a clutch type or vicious type.

Crap! I forgot the bolt spacing on the half shafts! I knew the answer to this a year ago.

He doesn't need to know if its a dif, he needs to know if its turbo or NA, since they are different. I believe there is bolt spacing info in teh tech section of www.rotaryresurrection.com

lift the rear of the car, spin the tires, if the tires spin in the same direction its an lsd, if one tire spins in one direction and the other in the opposite direction then its a open diff..(non lsd..)

its just painted. its been worked om imho. um... look at your transmition. if it looks like a t2 tranny, it most likely the tail end is using t2 components.

if not, then you liable to break something. in this case, it does sound logical that a rebuilt diff from turbo abuse would be needed.

Jack up the back end (both wheels up). With the tranny in neutral, try spinning one tire - if the opposite wheel turns the other way, its an open diff, and most likely NA, if it turns the same way, it's LSD - which doesn't tell you its turbo, but more likely. If you can spin the tire with only the the one off the ground, I think that also indicates an open diff.
