Question Turbo manifold question....

I recently purchased a T04R for cheap and was wondering....

it came with an aftermarket, top mount turbo manifold for an FD....

the guy said it should fit no problem, and it certainly looks like there will be no problems at all, but thought i would ask....

thanx....

it may not work. the FD intake is closser to the block than the FC. so the turbo could hit the intake.

i used a ssautochrome FD exhaust manifold on my s4 turbo II and it didnt fit.. it was waaaay to close to the UIM and we had to put 3 spacers to make it work..

It's very time consuming to make a manifold. If the price is too high, just make it yourself.

Nothing works w/o hassle.

You're probably looking at needing some sort of spacer between the block and the manifold as others have mentioned. Do a search on this forum and you should find plenty -- of course a picture of your manifold might help.

i should mention that it is a top mount manifold mabe....

it has the 2 pipes comming from the side of the engine towards where the stock air box would be....

then the turbo sits in that nice-open space....

If the turbo exhaust manfiold is made for an FD3S 13B-REW engine, it'll hit the FC3S 13BT lower intake manifold.
The clearances are different.

it's like this but the pipes go farther towards the front of the engine and holds the turbo ontop of it....

the pipes snake under where it connects to the rotor housings....

so it shouldnt hit anything underneath where it mounts, and it's pushed forward....

i saw one that held the turbo adjacent to where it connects to the housings but this one pushes it forward....

That eBay link is just a rebadged SSAutoCrap / OBX unit, and it still won't fit.
Yes, that particular turbo exhaust manifold does push the turbo forward, but it's still not enough.
You need to visualize the turbo *turbine* housing position.
It's still where the LIM is, and it's still going to hit it.

but the one i have is NOT the one in the link and pushes it more forward then that....

ahh i wish i had a picture of mine to show you guys, can anyone tell me if it theoretically should bolt onto the rotor housings?...

yes...theoretically....

But Its more than likely going to interfere with the LIM...when you put the turbo on that is.

But the only way to tell for sure is try it. If you need to buy another manifold, so be it. If you're planning on doing a full TO4 swap, the extra few hundred for another manifold shouldn't break the bank - you should have more then that cost set aside just for things like this to happen.

How big is the exhaust housing on the turbo? if its around a .86 it *may* be close to fitting....but again the only way to know is it fit it on and see.

How much more foward?

The turbine housing has to be like 10"+ from the front rotor exhaust port to clear the whole engine.
Maybe you can measure that offset?

doh, i have an akward feeling it might come into contact....

but at the same time, the manifold i have holds the turbo ontop of it and tilts it towards the strut-tower....

mabe a little more clearance?...
