Turbo II Tranny stuck in second gear

I had to replace the transmission and in the process ended up stripping the tranny mounting bolt on the tail housing. So I decided to change out the tailshafts between the old tranny and new one. Well i took the car for a drive it shifted pretty well, but I noticed it was harder and harder to get out of second gear, and sometimes couldnt get into first from neutral at a stop. Well 5 blocks from my house I tried to shift into third, and it wouldnt budge. I have removed the shifter, tried forcing it, tried bumping the car in gear but it just dosent want to move. Is it possible that I didnt seat the shifter linkage in the tail housing? My clutch works fine and I can start the car with the clutch in, but cant shift out of second gear. Does this tranny need a rebuild too? Or is there some secret way of getting this tranny out of gear.

shifting issues are almost always internal. if it was getting stiffer and stiffer and you have ruled out the shifter as the problem then the transmission needs to come apart.

Could just be the flappers on the end of the shift fork rods. The dengus on the end of your shifter pushes them. If you got it out of wack it could easily do what your discribing and since you were just in there........

Might get off easy, well, pulling the tranny again and pulling the tail housing then back on. Just think how good you will be at it when your done

Edit- meant to say two of the rods are in oppisite positions that they should be and your shifter is stuck in a place that cant move them.

Well i drained fluid and pulled the tranny, I stuck a shifter in there just to check for GP and the sucker was no longer stuck. I will say, that when i drove the car my shifter wasnt really screwed in tight and was very loose, maybe that has something to do with it.

I had a trans in a Miata lock up like this before. Although it was stuck in two gears at the same time. The shifter forks were all messed up somehow and it was engaging 2nd and 4th I believe.

Well after adding some fluid, the first time it didnt have much, taking the tail of the tranny off and reseating and checking the flapper. It happened again.

Drove it about 70 miles intermittnetly to break in my engine, it was fine at first but this morning the gears got progessively harder to get out of and then it eventually got locked into second.

guess its internal time.
