Turbo II Tranny Question

Is there a way to tell the difference between a Series 4 87-88 TII transmission, and the later, Series 5 89-91 TII tranny just by looking at it?

Thanks

The series 4 tranny mounting bracket (cross brace) has only two bolts that attach to it from the bottom, one on each side not counting the side rubber mounts. The series 5 mounts with two bolts on each side (4 total), also not counting the side rubber mounts. They have different ribbing on the case, and both fill hole locations are different. The latter differences are hard to distinguish from one another without having them side by side.

Im also having the same problem, I got a tranny from japan, and cant tell if its a 88 or a 89. Arent the shifters different from 87-88 and 89-91? Because I have four bolts holding on the rear bracket, but my 84' shifter fits into the transmission, so I thought it was a 88'. Let me know too, thanks

If yuou have four bolts holding on the rear bracket, you have an 89-91 tranny. Shifters are the same

Why does mazda trix have different numbers for the short throw in a 84-88 , and 89-91? is it just a length difference?
