Is it possible to add an airbag to an 87 turbo II ? ...i know most ppl are thinking WTF?! air bag!?!....but in order for me to get an FC it has to have an air bag...i've herd that the airbag steering wheel from an FD has the airbag system fully integrated into the wheel, in which case i can just swap put an FD steering wheel in an FC and bam! air bag
...sooo..is this possible...if not , is there any way?
...sooo..is this possible...if not , is there any way?Its not that simple. There are also sensors placed in the front and back of the car that tell it when to go off. It would be a pain in the *** to add, and not worth the hassle.

sorry, your only options are a convertible FC or an FD
go for an FD!!!! if not get a vert and swap it to turbo
s5's are a little simpler to convert, you just need the engine, afm, and boost sensor. harness is plug and pray
then you just blow upt he n/a tranny and get a turbo one later

Yup, 90 and 91 vert is your option for an FC.
Who stipulated that your car has to have an airbag? I'm assuming parents. Ask them if they've ever been BURNED by an airbag.
The FC is quite a safe car for it's age and size...I've seen all sorts of wrecked FC's that held up much better than the average streetcar would have in a similar situation.

Not exaclty sure why have you have a massive hard on for a piece of saftey equipment that is over 15 years old.Originally Posted by Journer

If your supporting reason is parents then maybe you should get something newer.
Personally, if I had an airbag in my face that was that damn old I would be a little weary.
And there is absoultly no way you could install on into an FC. Unless you were NZ....then maybe you could. But it would still be stupid.

airbags are for yuppies, i hate relying on devices for my safety. ABS is a good example, damn near killed me a few times when i was trying to control a skid and it would override my actions...
air bags are only really there in case your seat belt fails or you are not wearing it.
ever seen an airbag deploy when it isn't supposed to? i have, bloody finger nails on the floor, nice safety device...

Man, ABS saved my *** though few days ago.
Some body pulled out in front of me. I had no chance of stopping so I was able to brake hard and steer around the back of the truck.
Wasn't for ABS I would have prob. ran into him

Karack hit the nail on the head, air bags are primarly in existance because people weren't wearing their seatbelts. It can still have some benifits for whiplash, etc. For me it was really odd being in certain parts of the US where a lot of people don't wear seatbelts. Up here, only a small number of people don't wear belts. I can see why it was deemed necessary.
If you want safety, why not go for a full roll cage (ensuring bare head can't hit metal) with harness?

Untrue, airbags are more damaging and potentially lethal when a seatbelt is not worn, hence SRS (SUPPLEMENTAL Restraining System) as in a supplement to the seatbelt, it only slows your head from smacking the wheel, if the seat belt isn't there to slow your body the force of the air bag could quite possibly (as well as in documented cases) break your neck.Originally Posted by Snrub

Actually thats untrue, the airbag systems in cars are far more dangerous and potentially lethal when not wearing a seat belt. Thats why they are called SRS SUPPLEMENTAL Restraining System - as in supplemental to the primary restraint = the seatbelt. In a crash if your the forward motion of your body is not delayed for the necessary millesecond the force of the deploying air bag can snap a neck.Originally Posted by Snrub

The system is designed to deploy and be fully inflated for a second as your face hits it, not for your face to be in the way of it going off, which would occour if no seatbelt is worn.
no FC for me -_- ...
