Ok I'm confused. The GXL brochure states that when you lift the door handle, the door handle keyhole lights up? Was this a dealer installed option or did I misread the article?

you didnt read it wrong. its a small slight that illuminates the key hole on the driver's door when you lift the handle. the light does not work on my 10AE or my 88 TII but i had an 84 GSL-SE that it worked fine on. the light was almost an "indiglo" green color. its a pretty nice feature if you dont's have much light and you're trying to find the key hole at night. prevents scratching on the door from a prodding key.

Is there a way to repair it that you know of if it doesn't illuminate?

BTW, love the brochures!

It was an amazing machine when it debuted in 86 and still is impressive despite it's age. Would you say classic jaguar's or aston martin's are piles of crap because of their age?

i personally wouldn't. i'd say that given the time the 7 was and still is an amazing machine and the older jaguars(XJ220, XKE etc)were exemplary machines. i dont know why USS CJ would even question that....
