turbo hood or non turbo hood?

Hi my name is allen. I live in walnut and riverside. Im getting my rx-7 GXL N/A swapped in with a series 5 turbo. The thing is that I don't have a turbo hood. It is hard to find because the IC is gonna be a top mounted. I was wondering if it'll make any difference if I have a turbo hood or not. I know the only difference is that the IC wont be getting much air if any if i roll with the stock GXL hood. Can someone please help me if it would matter if i have a regular hood on rather than a turbo hood?
Thanx

Please don't waste your time with anything other than either a stock hood or (FAR more preferably) a front-mount intercooler. Even the stock IC out the front will be a far better solution than using an NA hood. If you can afford to upgrade your engine, you should be able to afford to do this right. If you can't afford it, you're asking for trouble later on.

Just troll around on ebay. I found a good, cheap, aluminum T2 hood for my swap after about a week of looking. Cost $225 inc. shipping.

as NZ said: mount your IC in the front.................or get the TII hood

1. the NA hood will NOT close
2. you'll destroy the turbo if you have the Stock IC with the NA hood if you force the hood shut.

Thats just plain wrong.... The TMIC does clear the hood, the TII hood has the rubber surrounding the scoop area to bridge that gap so the air goes thru the IC. I ran mine with an NA hood for about 1000 miles(during winter), but going FMIC now. Get a front mount.

While doing it is pretty dumb, this statement is completely false. It won't do anything to the turbo, it'll just result in less power and a much greater risk of detonation.

ummmmm you're telling me that running the 7 with no airflow to the IC and boosting will NOT result in turbo damage?

Nope, no force needed, I had clearance. Did not boost, was during engine break in. But like I said it was winter and it was cold out, a little boost wouldn't matter that much. I would not reccomend running the NA hood + TMIC in the middle of summer.

The way thats stated, it seems like your saying just the force of the hood on the TMIC would dammage the turbo.

my mistake for the shitty grammar.............if you shut the hood then you have no airflow to the stock IC..........trust me....I'm sleep deprived but not retarded.........it makes no sense how you could physically damage the turbo by forcing the hood shut on the TMIC.......that's like saying that I'll hurt my ***** if I have a tight football helmet on.
