Turbo guys help needed
Ok, I am trying to figure out if I really need to run a air/fuel ratio gauge or not.
Looking at buying one of these
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showthread.php?t=413030
It has 3 holes and I need a boost gauge and a volt gauge.
Now to figure out if i should run a Air/fuel gauge or a oil pressure guage.
I was told buy several people the the air/fuel ratio gauge is worthless and only will tell you after it is too late. I don't really agree with that but not sure If I should run one.
I have 30k on mazda reman and have all of the following to install.
HKS Sport Turbo
HKS exhaust manifold
HKS waste gate
HKS PFC-F-CON with the sport upgrade chip
HKS Graphic Control Computer
HKS FCD
HKS Turbo Timer
720cc secondary injectors (RP)
Bonez down pipe and HF Cat
Dynomax superturbo catback exhaust (Mazdatrix)
3rd Gen Fuel Pump
ACT clutch/light weight flywheel
Thanks

The normal narrow band AFR gauge will not be for tuning.
I do like it for troubleshooting & spotting problems.
You will see when you're in closed loop, the value will hunt up & down.
And if the idle lean down is working.
They react so instantly you can actually see a bad injector.
The display will fan out instead of showing a steady value.

As SureShot said, a narrow band AFR should not be used for tuning, but it is helpful to see if your AFR is in the ballpark. That said, there may be other gauges that will be more helpful. I would recommend Exhaust Gas Temp (EGT), oil temp, and/or water temp gauges. Personally, if I had three spots for gauges, I would run Boost, EGT, and oil temp but its personal preference. For AFR, I would run a wideband.

So what about this setup then?
Two on the a-piller
Boost
AFR
Three below the radio
Oil temp
EGT
Volt
I think that will cover all the bases. really want a volt meter so i know when that system starts to act up.

I think that covers just about all the bases.

Water temp is on the cars cluster.
All the guages work well.
I have already ordered the guages and should have them and have them installed soon.
Thanks for all the help.

The car is a Turbo from the factory (91TII - look in my Vb-garage)
so the boost gauge is were the volt gauge would be in a NA.
The boost gauge is not in PSI, so I am adding a PSI gauge.

you shouldnt need an oil temp gauge because the oil cooler as alot of people prob know will support 600hp. that more than enough cooling. i have always found a good oil pressure gauge to be useful.
