Turbo going bad???

Hello Fello Fanatics!

I just bought a '87 T2 and i think the turbo is going bad but i need some more advice.

When I take off hard in first and climb to about 5000 i usually here a high pitch sqeal almost like a belt is slipping although not quite. (I've checked the tension on all the belts.) It is less and less likely when i climb through the gears. Any suggestions? Anyone else have a similar problem?

Also it doesn't smoke or burn oil at all.

What does a turbo going bad sound like?

Thanks,
Paul

When a turbo's bearings start to fail, they do get louder, but it's not that loud and it's more of a very high pitched whistle, not a squeal.
Are you sure about those belts? An old belt doesn't need to be loose to slip and squeal. If they haven't been done in a while, I'd replace them.
