turbo/fuelpump question/emission
What would a faulty turbo do? what are the effects? For instance i spun the turbo with my finger and it was draggy and not smooth. i know i need to replace it but what are the causes and effects? also fuel pump too what are some causes?
im really tracing down problems in my car. i could really use help. if someone has no emission in there car can someone send me pics of the engine and the discconected parts like rats nest and stuff. im a noob but i got in to rx7 and i wanna fix it. my project car.

A faulty turbo may leak oil, produce little or no boost, take a long time to spool, ect. Main cause will simply be age, but can also be caused by excessive EGT's, higher boost, surge, ect.
A bad fuel pum will loose fuel pressure toward the high RPM range. This is dangerous because it can cause a lean condition under high boost/RPM/heat. Sometimes a clogged fuel filter can cause this same effect.

What is the problem you have having with the car?
It's normal for a journal bearing turbo to be a bit stiff without oil pressure. Just check to make sure the wheels don't contact the housings and there is minimal front to back movement.
Most often, bad fuel pumps just don't work.

well i have a back firing or misfiring problem. when my engine warms up and after around 30min of driving when i accelerate hard i have like a blast (firing loud noise) coming from engine-precat, it may not be the engine its not knocking , i dont have a clogged pre cat though, and i also lose speed (decelerate) the more i step on the gas and the is noise even worst. i wanted to know if that is an after effect of a turbo or fuel filter or fuel pump. to add a little information my omp is block i think, and my emission is gone, i run premix. thanx for the help. if anyone hav had the same problem i'd like to know what you did to solve it.

If you think the turbo is bad than take the car to a place that deals with turbo's and get them to check it. The will probably be able to tell you fairly quickly if the turbo is good or bad.
The issues you describe don't really sound directly related to a bad turbo or fuel pump... although it could be possible. What ECU is the car running since there are a bunch of mod's made to it? Stock... Standalone...? If stock, are you getting a check engine light? If it's not on is the bulb any good? What year is your car too?

Airflow meter maybe? It's really hard to tell when you have a lot of stuff removed from the motor. Maybe if you take a picture of your setup, we can take a look and see if stuff looks ok to start with.

/\ if the idiot cluster is properly working...
Sounds like a hack job of a T2 build. all too familiar to me.
Start with the TPS like Aaron suggested, and then the ECU. (make sure it's the right one)
EDIT*
The problems you are describing have nothing to do with the fuel pump and turbo. If your fuel pump was faulty at higher RPM, your motor would most likely blow due to detonation.
If the turbo is bad, you will have problems building boost, and lots of oil would be coming out of the tailpipe.

It looks like the trail coil plug wires, are going to the wrong places. I could be wrong. But it seems that way from what I see.
Looks as if the charcoal canister got tired and is laying down on its side taking a nap.
The blowoff valves source of vacuum is unique.
The fuel pump check connector is ready and ready to go at a moments notice.
For some reason the Purge line to the turbo inlet duct is ....disconnected, leaving the hole on the duct open????
All turbo cars came with a diagram of the emissions routing pasted to the underside of the hood.

Where in sacramento are you exactly?
I live over in elk grove, basically still sacramento area.
I can come give you a hand anytime after friday due to having no more school for the rest of my life from that day on.
You can also bring it to the next sacramento meet if it feels ok to drive.
Check the west section forum to see the updates about our next sacramento meet.
I have a shop as well as a shitload of tools.
So we can either work on it at your place or you can bring it to my shop.
I agree with it looking like a T2 hack job build, we will just have to start somewhere and check everything out.
