Turbo flange not smooth...problems?

I had an exhaust leak and when I finally took the turbo off this is what I saw. The gasket between the exhaust manifold and the turbo was completely blown through and the flange on the turbo hot side is not smooth. As you can see at the top of the picture the gasket made lines on the mating surface, but where it breaks up it's like a layer of the flange has been eaten off. I've got a new gasket, but will that rough surface cause a problem with sealing or possibly compromise the new gasket? I have no idea why it came out green.....heh, digital camera and odd lighting I guess. Thanks.

I guess I answered my own question. Bolted everything back up with the new gasket in place and it still sounds like I've got an exhaust leak. Oh well.
