turbo died, what are the options?
ok guys, i need some help and advice from you guys since i dont know much about the different types of turbo and what works well on the rotary.
my stock turbo is worn out and not usable anymore:
- 3mm radial play on the shaft
- fins have scraped on the inside of turbine housing
- wastegate hinge is worn so it sticks a little
- numerous cracks in turbine housing and manifold
#edit# (my explorer died before i finished my post )
i have a couple of options:
- stay with stock and get a secondhand turbo and manifold. Have found them at the RX specialist here for about €400,- (about $500,-) but i havent seen them yet so if they are any good then this will be option one!
- turbo rebuild, although i dont think this will be possible
- BNR turbo, but i think this is out of the question, i live in Holland and getting me a BNR turbo won't be much of an option due to the usable core charge and shipment and all...
- go with a different turbo setup, so maybe i could find me a small turbo similar to stock and an aftermarket manifold then i will be fine for the next 2-3 years. i have supporting fuel mods though...
im open for options and suggestions on this one, because i just dont know much about turbo sizing
i can't go with a big turbo upgrade because, with alle the money i spent for the mods i am doing right now, as you can see HERE
(thats why i found this problem)
i just dont have the cash for doing a decent turbo upgrade with all nesescairy components as in FMIC, 1600cc injectors and wastegate.

That is one seriously worn out *****.
I dunno, find a good used one and have it rebuilt and upgraded at BNR. Especially if you plan to use the stock TMIC and only make mild fuel mods...
Or if you got money and time go GT35R kit from a-spec... and by money i mean all the supporting mods required to make full use of this turbo....

yea that poor turbo has seen some run time thats for sure.
you can save and go custom.....kits are great but there expensive. piecing together things is easy though. hybrids are mostly a disappointment to people who have purchased from what ive read. if you wanna put down just 290rwhp or something there prob. great.

didn't read the last of your post.... and didn't see that MONSTEROUS crack monster. I say stay stock, if you can find a replacement for it, that is your best bet IMO. wait till you have money and have done some research to buy a custom turbo and all its necessary components and upgrades.

problem is solved!
i got lucky and found a great deal, got and original turbo and manifold (not the one i mentioned in my first post) for €450,- which i found to be a bargain.
the manifold has no cracks and the turbo is like new!
i'll post some pics this weekend
