Turbo clearing intake manifold

I have been wondering about this for a wile, and have search a couple time, and came up with nothing. Basicly, I want to know if trimming the lower intake manifold of a n/a would give a noticable amount of clearance when doing a turbo six port setup.

I stold this pic from aaroncake

would doing this allow you to not have to make a spacer for the turbo manifold? Maybe at least make a shorter spacer?

So how is the engine going to work with a big, gigantic hole in the intake manifold now?

ted, you are about 75% helpful and 25% one liner garbage.

anyway, most of that area is just an emply void. only one or two small vaccume ports, and the ports in the lower corners that let in exhaust gas in need to be plugged. I have also done this with a spare intake manifold i had. BUT lack an extra motor for mockup. Sure, I could go pull my intake real quick, but maybe someone here already knows?

this may help you. Modified S4 TII intake to fit a pre-86 13-B motor. One of my many unfinished projects.

That doesn't look much like an s4 intake mani. I have never had the pleasure of removing the s5 N/A LIM. If you have seen the s4 N/a LIM, its about the shape of a box. I would say, in the interests of turboing an N/A (s4, as I could only assume that the s5 is of similar shape as the s4) the spacer will save much trouble as offered by several companies (I can not name them as I have s4 T2). My best bet would PM aaroncake, as he was the one who made the photo (? never seen that one, on here or his website either). Good luck!

If you had pics of the necessary work done (if any, but IIRC most do) to accommodate the 5th/6th ports (ie port matching) that would be most beneficial to the OP IMO in the interests of fitting a t2 intake to the N/A block.

I think a stock turbo will have the compressor hit the intake runner even with it modified like that. You could possibly use longer studs and 1 flange to space it far enough or go aftermarket turbo.

I welded up the holes....

Anyway, even with a totally shaved S4 lower intake, the turbo will not clear. Both the compressor and turbine housing still bump into the intake. You can get away with a smaller spacer however, and you will need less of a frame notch if you intend on keeping the wastegate actuator in the stock location.
