im buying a used turbo form some guy the blades dont spin smoothly, he said they need to get oiled up and they should spin good, the turbo has almost no play at all, ??? wat u guys think is rong here

 

I would say that it prolly needs a rebuild

***EDIT**** alow me to elaborate
the wheels prolly dont have much play because the bearings are good however the internals are prolly coaked up and the seals are prolly worn causing the harshness in spinning the blades...

either that or the casting is warped and the blades are touching the housings
OR the bearings are toast and the blades are rubbing the housings and thats why u dont feel any play but why they are stiff

either way a rebuild kit is quite inexpensive and can be done in roughly 45 minutes by a novice

 

Don't buy unless it's really cheap, cause it's rebuild time

 

hes giving me the turbo, manifold thats in good shape, wastegate, and down pipe, for 300 , and wastegate pipe

 

The turbo bearings are fluid bearings, so they may feel stiff unless the turbo is receiving pressurized oil. They should turn smoothly in any circumstance though.
