Turbo on a 86 GXL
I have a 86 GXL and want to get a turbo. I've tried searching and found how to's for a complete swap, but I want to keep my (fairly new) engine....anyone know what I all need for this? The more detailed the better. Thanks a lot!

it would probably be easier and less problematic to find a turboII. unless you know uber-alot of rx7's and enjoy working on cars and stuff,.. but what the hell do i know. i have a 86 gxl too. woo.

All I want is a turbo. Now, I have access to TII WITHOUT an engine or turbo.....so that's why I wanted to buy a turbo and use it on my engine I have right now.

Hey man, look for some post by Vtekeater (i think i spelled that right, if not... mail all postage bombs to 21 jump st.... ). He has slaped some turbos on N/A motors with great success. Just keep the boost down, just talk to him, im sure he'll set you straight without all the negative critisim you'll find from many (if not all) of the members of the forum. Good day.

Saku,
Keep in mind bare minimum the swap would require an 87-88 ECU, Turbo, engine, transmission, drivetrain (rear diff, drive axel, mounts), etc...
Now if you happened accross a smashed 87-88 TII - your all set. If your planning on tracking down the parts individually you'd spend more than the car is worth (unless you know someone )
Personally I'd try to find a TII with a blown engine for cheap and start building it up.
hope this helps
