trying to start car

just put in new engine, trying to start car, it turns over kinda of ok for 1 second then each turn its like the battery gets more and more dead. Put a battery charger on there and gave it 80 amps, should EASILY jump the car, but it does the same thing. I get a NEW battery, put it in there does the same thing, put the charger on the new battery SAME THING. Any ideas? Im guessing .. maybe the starter wire got 2 hot, melted and is touching the chassis?

THANKS

Charger puts out 14.4 volts, battery holds 12.4 EASY. (Deep cell) Its not the charging/power system. Help.

Maybe your starter has had it... Have the starter tested.

hmmm just noticed that when I connect the charger and turn it to 40 amps or more, the battery cables get hot. At 80 amps its almost to hot to the touch. I was thinking that ... there shouldnt be power going through the cables when the car is off ...... y are they getting hot? Must be a bad wire something grounding out? The ground AND the positive cables are both hot.

(took off the charger)

You have a connection problem. There is a bad connection at the battery cable and battery, or cable and the starter. Make sure everything is tight, not corroded, etc.

If the cables really are heating up with the car off, disconnect the battery cables from the starter and see if they still become hot. Starter could be shorted...
