Need to know more than that. Need to know interior options (whats power whats not), what the door panel tire size says, etc.

Powerlocks would be a no-no (though you can't really tell through the picture), are you going by pictures only?

No for power locks, If you have access to the car, put a magnet on the hood to see if it's aluminum or steel, check that it has 4 pot brakes in the front. Those are the wheels from a GTU-s though. The power locks don't come on the gtus, but that could've been added by someone during it's life.

Look for a tag on the rear diff. If it has one, it will say lsd fluid only. It should also say specify 16" rims on the door jamb tag.

looks like it has a hardtop... if so i believe itll be a GTUs, rolling windows and manual seat belts and t2 seats will be a plus for evidence also...and everything else other ppl mentioned: brakes, hood, lsd

Power locks can be added aftermarket to any car in an hour or two, I wouldn't rule out the car for just having power locks.

Based on the pictures, I do think that the car is a GTUs. The no Sunroof is the big give away as is the low VIN number (I bet the VIN number is re-stamped on the firewall). Almost all 90 coupes had sunroofs except the GTUs.

Too bad the miles are so high on that car.

If the engine is really rebuilt along with the transmission, it could be worth $2k. I'm not sure how much the chassis mileage would bring down the price.

Anybody else see a problem here?

That is a GTUs... Don't be fooled by the power locks... They were an option on ALL S5 models including the GTUs... The vin number itself verifies what it is...

truthfully I understand that the gtus is a limited production car but there is not a established market for these cars so IMHO it should be valued at what a 1990 NA is worth which is 2k. These are very underpowered by todays standards making them basically worthless to anyone other than a enthusiast or a kid who has pipe dreams of making money off it.

Any N/A is somewhat underpowered by todays standards. Why do we still buy them? Because we're enthusiasts... Owning a GTUs is something an enthusiast sees as cool. It makes you different and puts you in a seperate group that few people share.

I partially disagree... I think it's a rare car (given the production #'s and options available) and should be kept in high regards among enthusiasts, rather than falling into the hands of ricers... Some cars should just be kept expensive... And that's coming from a poor person...

*edit* that was directed at Bukwild's comment (I need to start quoting so people don't beat me to the post)

Its a GTU-s as far as i can tell, and a very nice one at that, snag it, dont let people tell you how much to spend on a car, your smart, do what you want. If its worth the extra money to you, get it. I snagged my Targa roofed GXL for way more than any penny pincher here would pay for it, and i do believe i got my money's worth.

Talking

As with all things in life, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Well said staticguitar! When a car is 15-20 years old, the condition of the car, the useful options/enhancements on the vehicle, and the depth of your pockets will determine the price you are willing to pay. To accurately judge the value of a vehicle of that age sight unseen is difficult, if not impossible. If he wants the car real bad and has the money to buy it, he should buy it. If he wants to buy the car to make a profit with a quick resale--that's a whole other thing.

I have an '89 GTUs, and that is also a GTUs on eBay (I had seen it several days earlier). Several things stand out in a negative sense--

1) No fan shroud, hesitant to know what the owner thinks he knows on maintaining the car previously.

2) Oil pressure sender/gauge no worky, see part two of #1.

3) Big stereos as the main seller. Even if you didn't know what a GTUs was or was worth, see part two of #1.....not a generalization, just an observation.

4) Do a CarFax VIN check regardless, just to secure the title history of the car and make sure its not salvaged/junk title or flood title. It's worth the feel

5) See what transportation and/or shipping costs would be when factoring your total cost of the car. Unless you plan on Racing or Restoring the GTUs, there really isn't a reason to jump on it unless its stupid-cheap and relatively complete.

In the end it's all up to you, try not to let our opinions sway you too much if you really have your heart set for or against the car.

If you get it, welcome to the GTUs! I just put a new motor in mine (hazards of an extremely low purchase price) and have put over an hour of track time and 3 races on it.
