True Dual Exhaust, revisited

This is for jhammons01 because he couldn't get it to post on his own with this title due to the proxy errors. He asked me to get it going for him, which I am doing here. He will come in soon with his particular questions about the true dual setup.

^^Thanks dDub its been about 4 days of Frustration trying to get a new post.

I put on a true Dual exhaust the other day and the power gains are really great. The system has a Racing beat header with a couple of presilencers for each side. Then they run into the stock mufflers hanging off the back.

The system was used and there is one small pin hole in one of the welds. I am going to take it a muffler shop and have it fixed.....no big.

The header makes the motor have a sound (up front) like a piston motor that has thrown a rod. Kinda tink, tink, tink, but really fast. The Motor used to bog heavily at low RPMs (under 3k) But now it climbs out fairly quickly and it pulls strong threw 7k. The acceleration is noticeably greater than before. On the first test run the RPM buzzer came on un-expectedly, by the time my eyes found what was buzzing I had it up 7800 RPMS. The motor was still pulling so I thought I was not near redline.

I can see the fumes at night in other peoples headlights. I am not sure yet how the best way to lean it out. I figure that since the O2 sensor is made for sampling both exhaust ports....now that it is only sampling one side it thinks the motor is running too lean and therefore richens the mixture. You Gurus help me out on that one.

I have the entire stock exhaust in plastic container under the work bench should I want to swap back for smog.

Another thing I noticed was that the system seem to running cooler, even to the point of the shifter being cool. I have all the heat shields in place but the shifter (the rod and the screws under the shfter handle) would be really hot. Not so that you would burn your fingers but just right on the verge.

Glad you liked it, I miss it already.

Just wait till you go driving at night and see flames chasing you in your rearveiw mirror. And 02 reading shouldn't have changed unless your rear rotor is running leaner then your front as a/f should be the same on both rotors giving the same reading. Smell is just from the missing cat, I seemd to get better gas millage with that exhuast 20-23mpg and went to 15-18mpg on the stocker now.

Well glad you liked it and hope you get much joy out of it as I did.

Well since the heat from the exhasut is split now through two pipes instead of one the should be a drop in focsed heat. As far as the o2 sensor good luck man it might not be getting hot enough or a number of other reasons. Does it smell like gas bad? You might be running ok, your system looks like it's pretty stright through so what your seeing might just be heat waves. By the way where did you get that exhaust setup?

Ah, I saw that setup on ebay!

The smell/fumes is just from no cat, no biggie. I can smell the gaseous fumes on my exhaust because I have no cats, but you get used to it after a while

That exhuast system was built by me and sold cheap, since no one local wanted to pay what I was asking.. $500.. Sold for $340.

RB sells componts to build your own but is in the 1k range.

Edit: Got beat posting it.

And as for the flames, rev it to about 7k in second, then let off (car in gear) and just blimp the throttle, about 1/8th down quickly.. you will hear loud pops fallowed by flames... hehe Worked like a charm for me.

Don't worry, I don't get any flames either

I have no emissions, no cats, straight through exhaust, and still no flames. Haven't tried too hard, though, but I might be able to get some going if i just bounced it off of 7500 over and over for a while. I honestly don't care too much heh.

When my rebuild was idling in the driveway for the first startup as I checked stuff and cleaned up it WAS bellowing blue flames out of the exhaust, though It was weird, I figured out that the timing was way advanced and I had to restab the CAS, it was cool for a second haha.

No the smell is not bad. I just know a rich smell when I.....smell it. I was just reading other post about duals and somebody made mention of running rich and having to lean it out.

I am new to performance Tuning so I am testing the waters. I want to change the Air intake now. I heard that the Stock Filter/breather really throttles the intake.

No, that was just for my personal use, used it for about a year then sold since I didn't feel like swapping it back in after emissions test and could use a few extra bucks for my project car, www.godzilladefenceforce.com , in the mean time since I'm in between jobs right now.

And jhammons01 you need to put some RB rear on there to get the most out of it and really feel the POWER OF THE ROTARY!

I think a lot of people were wanting it. I guess if we were doing market research we would price our Mufflers at around $300 for the Rex drivers

The exhaust is split into two seperate pipes now, so it's a lot harder to get flames because not only does the exhaust sit a bit cooler, the gas that's dumped into each pipe doesn't get a chance to collect together then ignite while the system is collected, then go out the tailpipe(s). I've found that I pop a slightly larger flame from the left side of the exhaust. Just one of those things...
