read a rumor that they were warrantied for life?

Yes it is true. I am going to get mine taken care of this week sometime. I don't know if it covers both sides or not, I am 100% sure on the passenger side though. This is for the retractors, not the belts themselves.

Dear Mazda Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of Nation Traffic and Motor Vehicles

Safety Act and to follow-up our previous letter of Recall Campaign #6611 mailed to you in November

1996.

Mazda Motor Corporation has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain

1989 - 1991 RX-7 models.

Mazda has determined that, under certain conditions, the cable that retracts the automated shoulder

belt buckle may become jammed along the sides of the roof and possibly locked in an improper

position in the rails.

Mazda has recently completed production of the modified parts and tools to inspect and/or replace

your automatic shoulder belt, if necessary. Please schedule and appointment with your Mazda dealer

to have the recall inspection and/or repair performed on your vehicle. The dealer will perform the

necessary inspection and/or repair at no charge. The work takes approximately have a day to

complete. However, it may take longer depending on the service department's work schedule.

In addition to performing this recall, Mazda is extending the warranty coverage in the driver and

passenger automatic shoulder belt rail and motor for the life of the vehicle.

If you have already paid for the repair of replacement of your automatic shoulder belts, due to a defect

in materials or workmanship, Mazda will reimburse you for reasonable expenses based on Mazda's

repair standards. Pleas complete the enclosed "Reimbursement Application" form, mail it in the

preaddressed envelope and allow 6-8 weeks for processing.

If you are the leaser of the vehicle and have received this letter, please provide a copy to the lessee.

Should you have any questions regarding this program, please contact our Customer Relations tollfree

number, (800) 222-5500.

If your dealer or distributor does not remedy the defect without charge or with in a reasonable amount

of time, you may wish to notify the Administrator for the nation Highway Traffic Safety Administration

Washington, DC 20590, or you can call their toll-free Auto-Safety Hotline at (800) 424-9393 (Residents of

Washington, DC, may call 386-0123).

If you no longer own your 1989 - 1991 RX-7, please complete and mail the enclosed "Change of

Address/Ownership" pre-paid postcard, as soon as possible. This enables us to update our records and

notify the current owner, if necessary.

certified dealers will fix both for free. Call them and tell them that a lifetime warrantee was extended for that parts and that you already talked to a mazda service rep. If they still wont tell them to call mazda. Then they'll sched. you for a diagnosis and then the repairs. All 100% free.

Parts covered include rails, motors, and cables. You can even buy replacement trim fo 90 bucks though the dealer too. They still have them.

End of story. This thread should be closed as this is the 1 millionth time this conversation and topic has been covered and it's exactly the same ever time.
