Troubleshooting engine stuttering at 3K
Troubleshooting engine stuttering at 3K
Okay, I did a search of the forum, but didn't really find any post directly related to what I'm trying to troubleshoot. Recently I started to intermittently see the check engine light flash on and off. Thinking that it was just a vacuum leak causing the problem, I went through and changed all the vacuum lines (some of them are a real PIA!).
After doing that, the car ran great for a week, no check engine light, but then suddenly I started getting a check engine light on solid at 3000 RPM and the engine would start to sputter. Yet if I shifted down so that I went into a higher RPM everything seems to be okay...the check engine light stayed on, but at the higher RPM the engine didn't seem to stutter.
If I let the RPM come back down to idle then the light goes off and the engine runs fine for a few moments at 3000RPM until the check engine light comes back on.
I tried pulling the ECU codes, but got nothing...while trying to pull the ECU, the Check Engine light would come on, go off, then come on, but nothing else. I tried resetting the ECU, but that didn't help either
So looking for some troubleshooting ideas to maybe start with?
This is an 89.5 GTU BTW. I bought this car 20 years ago brand new and I remember people gave me crap about the quality of RX-7's & rotaries sucking...I now have to agree, 20 years later and I'm dealing with my first annoying problem
...LOL!
