Troubles Starting-Up

Hey guys, I just bought a 1988 GXL.. I'm pretty new to rotary engines and all.. The car is having a hard time starting up, mainly when it's cold.. When it's warm it will usually start up after 2 cranks or so.. but when it's cold it just keeps crankin and crankin.. When i bought it they told me it had the turbo injectors in there, it's NOT turbo.. (dont ask me why they put the injectors in there).. I was thinking that it may be because it was getting flooded.. Any suggestions or help? Much appreciated.. Thanks

Randy

The 3 issues effecting startup are cranking RPM's, compression, & fuel.

A fresh battery, good starter, & good connections should crank it fast enough.

Compression is usually proportional to wear, so a high mileage or low compression engine will be hard to start.

Fuel flooding can come from many causes, but the common fix is to install a fuel cut switch, so you can start cranking with the fuel off.

You are correct - turbo injectors in a stock NA don't make sense.

I have a copy of the Factory Service Manuals on-line at the link in my sig below.

If they are turbo injectors take them out, its not nessasary for a N/A switch back to the stock injectors if you can get some. Well alot of cars have trouble starting in the cold. Also your batter has something to do with it also, correct me if i'm wrong people. But the more cold cranking amps your battery puts out, then the chances of start up faster.

But anyways welcome to the site. The search button is your best friend here. Read the FAQ it helps a lot.

yeah, i was using the search for awhile but couldn't really find a whole lot on the subject, well with my senerio at least.. i did use it to find info about the 'add coolant' siren that sounds like a damn fog horn... and i just put a new battery in the car.. Optima Red Top 75/35 which puts out 910 cold cranking amps... thanks for the help guys.. i have the haynes manual and i've been reading that like crazy.. so i'll be checkin back here for any other problems i might have..
