Question Trouble Starting 1988 RX7

I'm new to the forum process being more comfortable under the hood than on the internet, but need some help:

I'm not as familiar with rotaries and have only had the RX7 for a year with ongoing issues with the alternator belt. I've broken three now, not because they are too tight but because they become loose and slip/grind around the alt pulley. (I know to adjust a new belt but more than 3 times?) Anyway, the alt has been checked and rear bearing replaced due to the heat build up with the belt slipping. My problem now, is that when I turned off the engine to tighten the belt during the last episode of belt noise, I noticed the belt was chunked so took it off to replace, broke the adj bolt so pushed it into the garage until I could get a bolt. About a week later, I try to start it and it acts like a low battery. I jump the car with no change, I switch batteries (one know good one for this one) no change. It sounds like there's not enough juice, and it is almost going to turn over. So, I know to go through the solenoid and starter tests, but isn't that a heck of a cooincidence? I also wondered about the timing adjustment "****" that sits right next to the alt belt. Could belt dust somehow slightly "knocked" it out of whack (someone at a dealership suggested my timing might be off, but this sounds far fetched given that the car ran beautifully right up until I turned the car off.

I am looking for any advice to narrow the search. Is there anything specific to RX7s that I need to know?

Thanks!
