trouble with rx-7...NEED HELP!

I have a non-turbo 86 mazda RX-7 with some type of electrical problem. When I first bought my car it ran fine. I parked it for a while because I did some body work on it and when I went and reconnected the battery to start the car up, I accidentally plugged the battery in backwards, Negative to positive and vice versa. I blew the main fuse. I replaced it and tried starting the car again but it doesn’t catch on. The engine turns over perfectly but doesn’t stay on. I thought it was the gas but checked and gas is coming to the engine pretty good. I then checked to see if there was spark going to the spark plugs…..no spark. No spark to any of the four plugs. I also got new spark plugs and checked to see if the motor is flooded. No signs of flood. I assumed it was the igniters that must have blown so I got 2 different igniters that I know works. But still no sparks to the spark plugs. Does anyone have any idea as to what happened and how I can go about resolving this? I’m just about ready to give up on the rx-7 and it’s rotary engine.

I think it may be the ecu that may have been fried when I hooked up the battery the wrong way….i’ll give that a check this weekend.

If you have not already - check ALL the fuses.

Yeah I would be also checking the fuses (underhood and under dash) but my money would be on a blown ECU and or other electrical parts.

I read a thread a while ago about a guy doing the same thing and he blew his ECU.

thanks for all the info.

I checked all the fuses, the ones in the engine bay and the ones inside the car, all are okay.

I will try and see if i can get another ecu to test it out.

Will an ecu from a 91 work in an 86?

THanks

No, you will need a N326 or N327 ECU only to run a 86-88 non turbo coupe.
