Trivial Steering links question...
Trivial Steering links question...
Ok... So I removed the steering column to insteal the clutch pedal assembly. So.. new pedals in.. trying to get the steering column back up.
I disconected the steering column at the steering link ujoint. So the steering column will connect to the ujoint that is currently linked to the rack.
So... I can get the connection halfway on (to where the second set of spines line up) but it seems impossible to line up the second spines.
I have the steering column *not* bolted up, just sitting on the floor, so that that column/spines are a little easier to work with in the engine bay.
I removed the steering column again and tried to seperate the joint with two screwdrivers. I doubt if I even got it to spread 1/2 mm wider. However, it does seem to pop through the first set of spines much easier. But it stops fast on the second set, won't go any farther.
Any ideas?
I thought about removing the ujoint from the steering rack link, speading both joints, and connecting the steering column to the ujoint *FIRST*, and then connect the other end of the ujoint to the steering rack link.
What a mess!
I did remove the p/s pump since i was completely in my way.
Any ideas? I know its probably a trivial gen automotive question, but this is being more of a pain then when we rebuilt a 79 camaro rear-end. Spines went right together.
TIA
