Tranzmission will not shift into 1st or Reverse

Well it takes me 10 seconds or so. Its a pain. The tranz has no other problems and thier has been no sings before. It will engage easier if I move the car a little and then try putting it in gear. I recently put in a pressure plate and disk thats it. The tranz is alinged and the mechanic said that the shifter stick was fine. So I did everything right but the mechanic still said the tranz is fucked. Any sugestions.

It could be something simple like rebleeding the clutch slave.

Sounds like a clutch problem to me because 1st and reverse are the only gears without synchros. Try bleeding your clutch. I drove a car with the same problem except is was the fact that the clutch master was shot, thus not fully disengaging the clutch. A clutch with air in the lines would have the same effect.
