Transporting a mountain bike in a Vert?

What's the best way to do it? Take off the wheels and stuff the bike in the passenger seat? I can't fit anything in the trunk except for maybe the wheels. I'm worried about the bike scratching up the interior....wondering if anyone has done this before and has any tips. I don't have the car with me so it's hard to visualize how to do this.

Take off the wheels, handlebar, front forks. Take off what you can that is easy to get off and put those in the trunk.

Taking of the seat, front and rear wheels, I was able to position the frame in the passenger seat. The two wheels were stuffed behind the seats in front of the windblocker. Top had to be down no matter what to gett them in and out but could be closed when everything was in.

I have a trailer hitch for an fc coupe or vert btw.

When I was in college a guy let his car roll back into a ditch...it was stuck. So we lashed a chain to my hitch and I help pulled him out
