Transmition Issues
Transmition Issues
I have 2 7's. I love them both, 86' and 89 GXL, Both N/A. The 89 has some kind of trnansmition issue. When I lay into the peddle when the car is under load, I begin to hear a metal against metal clanking sound, kinda from the transmition I believe. I have had the bearings in the engine checked so those are not it. I have just recently changed the transmition gear oil. Has anyone ever had this problwm before. The car has sat for about 1 year, before now. It has been quite a few years since I have worked on a Rotary, wouldn't give them up for nothing. Thanks for the help.
Tranny noise
Are you sure it's the tranny? Any oil leaks (rear by driveshaft is common) Check the rear end/rear end oil level? CV joints inner and outer on the drive axle? U joints? I assume the engine was out to check the bearings. Clutch put together correctly? (flywheel, clutch not aligned, throwout bearing?) Dragging starter? If you have an automatic, torque converter not reinstalled correctly/going bad. Filters in need of changing. Lots of things to check. Good luck.
sounds like your rear diff mount is gone, and the driveshaft/u-joint is hitting the tunnel.
Look under the car by the rear u-joint and see if you can see where it's been hitting under the car.
Not too hard of a fix, but don't drive it too much until you get it fixed.
