Question Transmission Swap.......I Have Questions

Guys....I have a 1990 Automatic RX7 Convertible. The Transmission has a few gremlins in it and I am looking to put a 5 SPD Transmission in. Do I need to be looking for an 89-92 RX7 for the swap? I understand that I'll need much more than just the Transmission. Pedals, Driveshaft, Master Cylinder...Etc. But, do I need an 89-92 Car to take this stuff out of, or would an S4 work for me? (Does an S4 Transmission work with an S5 Motor?) I see cheaper S4's than I do S5's..........BTW, I am in Lakeland (Between Orlando and Tampa), Florida if anyone has a line on a cheap....and I mean cheap car that they know of. Perfectly, I would love to find a car with a blown motor, so that I can pull it and perform a bench build while still driving the car. But........I just need to get the Trans swapped to begin with. Any help or tech tips would be appreciated.

S4 ones would work fine. Different gear ratios for 5th, but other than that they would be fine.

I have done this swap it is a bit complicated but not impossible. yes the pedals need to be done PITA you need to drill out the mounts from a manual body in a junk yard and weld them onto your body and cut yours off because they mount in a different location. When I say drill I mean use a spot weld driller or just a 3/8 and center punch the spot welds. If you have everything you need you can do it in a LONG weekend. It is best to get the wiring harness and I dont remember if I used the ECU or not. If you dont get the harness you will need to jump out the neutral safety switch in the automatic harness. that is all I remeber now if you have specific questions feel free to PM me

this is a list i was given by Chris Sanders at Banzai Racing.

You need:
Transmission
trans crossmember
clutch master cylinder and lines
slave cylinder
driveshaft
starter
pedal assembly with sensors
clutch or you can buy a new one
shifter and surround with the tunnel boots and bracket
flywheel, which we cannot use on your car because of the weight but you can resell it, or you can pick a light weight flywheel and we can attach it to your counterweight which is already there because it is an automatic

Also you can look into getting a s4 gxl 4.10 lsd. hope this helps you. im in the process of doing this right now. if you want to find those parts talk to Indyparts on this forum. he is who i got my stuff from. and i know he has more of all of that.
