Is a transmission rebuild within the scope of a "weekend mechanic"?

hmmm, it could be an up to date version. The preview function of Amazon is not working at the moment, otherwise I would check out the table of contents. The book I have covers the 1st gen Miata. I would suggest finding a Barnes and Noble or similar book store, grab some coffee, find the book and leaf through it. I found it very helpful. Tonight after I get home I'll try to post the exact info on the book I have.
Tried looking for the book Mazda Miata MX5 Enthusiast's Shop Manual on Amazon and it seems to be out of print.

Ya, the press I used was similar to the 12 Ton Haubour Freight unit. It worked fine. I was thinking of buying one myself but a friend had one so why eat up the space in the shop? The book just uses several pipes a vice and a hammer.
The book I used is called Mazda Miata 1.6 Liter Enthusiast's shop manual by Rod Grainger and Pete Shoemark by Viloce Publishing first published in 1994. The book tells you how to modify a bearing puller to increase it's reach (picture) and also to make sure you keep parts in order when you take them off (picture).
Hopefully the pictures will be attached. I'm not really sure how to do it.

Let me try to attach some photos. The board was acting funny the other night.
OK this maybe a simplistic question, but I want to add a photo by attaching a file. So I click on the 'Browse' button in the attach file section of the reply screen, find the file on my computer, and then press submit reply. This is not rocket science, so what am I doing wrong I wonder. The file size is only 49k.

Hey, it worked. Cool.
Here is a photo of how I keeped all the gears in the correct order and orientation. Each dowel is for one shaft (main shaft, counter shaft and small reverse gear shaft.)
You will also use a lot of zip lock bags (for the c-washers, and ball bearings and the like). Bag and label everything that can not go on the pegs.
